MBTI vs. Zeswa: why team fit needs more than a personality type
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a useful icebreaker, but it was never designed to match teammates. Here's what modern team science measures instead — and why it matters for hiring.
Dr. Susan Bell
Dec 5, 2025
The Bell Method is a behavioral science framework developed by Dr. Susan Bell that measures how individuals lead, collaborate, and adapt under pressure. Zeswa converts it into adaptive digital questionnaires — candidates complete an assessment, and our engine scores them across dimensions like leadership, communication, and learning agility, then maps each score to your role requirements.
Most Bell Method assessments take between 18 and 25 minutes. You can configure timed or async delivery — async lets candidates complete on their own schedule within a window you set, while timed sessions are useful for proctored or synchronous interview stages.
Yes. Zeswa has native connectors for Ashby, Greenhouse, and Lever, plus HRIS sync with Rippling, BambooHR, and Workday. Assessment results and fit scores are pushed back into your ATS candidate record automatically, so your team never has to leave their existing workflow.
Bias safeguards work in two ways. First, demographic data is anonymized by default during evaluation. Second, our real-time sentiment analysis flags when reviewer feedback language deviates from your calibrated rubric and prompts a review before submission. Every decision is audit-trailed for compliance exports (EEOC, GDPR).
Zeswa is SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit at the field level. We support regional data residency in the US, EU, and APAC, and offer SSO / SAML 2.0 with SCIM provisioning for enterprise teams.
The 14-day free trial gives you full access to the Growth plan — unlimited Bell Method assessments, Team DNA mapping, fit scoring, and all integrations. No credit card is required to start. At the end of the trial you can choose a plan or export all your data.
Our research is led by Dr. Suzanne Bell, a tenured associate professor of industrial and organizational psychology and a leading researcher in team composition and team effectiveness. The Zeswa work-style survey and compatibility methodology synthesize Dr. Bell’s research with the wider body of peer-reviewed work in organizational psychology and management on how the configuration of member attributes affects team performance.
A high compatibility score is dimension-specific. For traits like conscientiousness the relationship with performance is linear (the more the team has, the better), so we maximize the team mean. For traits like assertiveness, complementary fit is ideal, so we look for matches that broaden the team’s range. For traits like conflict-management approach, supplementary fit is ideal, so we reward matches that tighten the team’s spread. The score reflects the configuration most likely to produce an effective team.
Personality tests typically produce long, jargon-heavy results that require a trained practitioner to interpret and aren’t designed to predict fit with other people. Zeswa returns simple, jargon-free results candidates can read themselves, and — because every dimension is scored relative to another individual or team — it is purpose-built to predict team fit and surface specific, actionable insights for working together.
